I saw the sentiment today on a thread about finding little Hind that the world does not deserve her. and I think we can only say that if we pretend the world is not also filled with loving people who only wanted to reach their hands out to her.
as if her mother was not begging on the news for any hint of her. as if her grandfather didn’t have to find the decomposed bodies of his family. as if two brave heroes did not die trying to save her life while the ambulance they were rushing in was bombed. as if her cousin Layan, herself a child at only 15, did not die trying to call for help before Hind could pick up the phone.
this is why Palestinians call their dead martyrs. this is the world that deserves her. the community and people who fight everyday with their lives and their spirits.
The thing that pisses me off the most is that even if covid WAS over, disabled people still fucking exist and deserve to participate in things. The brief period of time in which everyone was doing virtual and hybrid events, people could work from home, social events were actually accessible…all it did was show that we could be doing these things, and just don’t fucking care.
Hybrid events should be the STANDARD. Including people who can’t leave their houses should be the STANDARD. Some basic fucking consideration for the disabled should be the STANDARD.
I have been a sheep caretaker for like two days and already I’m like. Wow. I get it.
I get why these were some of the earliest mammals to ever be domesticated. They look up to humans with this sort of dumb but all at once innocent and pure and trusting expression. They’re happy to see you. They follow you around. They like to be rubbed under their chins. Maybe its just some latent Scottish highland shepherd DNA I still have in me but I look at my sheep charges and suddenly I see why the love of God for humanity is so often described as a shepherd and his sheep. I’d fight a wolf for these guys. I’d go way the Hell out of my way for them. I’d carry their young for miles on my own back.
nearly 80k reblogs and how many of you eat lamb
The ancient shepherds I’m referencing also ate lamb lol
Information on the 12 UNRWA staffers accused of collaborating with Palestinian militia on Oct 7th was gained through torture

They’re also cutting funding because 30 Palestinian staffers (out of 10,000 workers) celebrated the Oct 7th attacks
ALT
UNRWA firing staffers should not be seen as a confirmation that the Israelis, Americans, and the British are right. The org has a history of capitulating to pressure and demonising Palestinians

4 in 5 people facing severe hunger in the world can be found in Gaza. Hundreds of thousands of civilians face death from starving. Israel attacking the UNRWA and the US and the UK cutting its funding is meant to ensure that there’s catastrophic mass death from starvation.
Abdalhadi Alijla - “What can I tell my 76-year-old mother and my 10-year-old niece? "The ICJ does not see ordering a ceasefire as necessary for your survival.” Gazans’ eyes and ears were eagerly awaiting the word “stop” or “ceasefire”.”
Abla Abdelhadi: “Please keep in mind our Palestinian people in Gaza don’t feel like celebrating incremental legal "wins”. They’re allowed to express outrage, disappointment & whatever they want. They’re still under Israel’s bombs, nothing for them to celebrate!“
Remi Kanazi: "The ICJ isn’t the authority here. Palestinians are. It is they who have experienced the genocide. It is they who have faced the gruesome crimes detailed in those halls. It is they who continue to bury the dead, search for food & hope to dodge the next bomb dropped. Ceasefire now.”
If you’ve ever been disappointed by dragonfruit, especially if you felt like it tasted like nothing, then I’m like 90% sure you had unripe dragonfruit, which tastes like nothing. There’s a small window of time where it tastes amazing. You must have the patience of a hunter. Do not strike until your prey is at its most delicious
TIPS FOR DRAGONFRUIT/PITAYA
You want PINK flesh not white flesh. It’s sweeter. Pink pitaya never done me wrong.
You want DENSE pitaya. It’s like the watermelon rules, heft them and compare weight-to-size ratios.
You want ROUND. I don’t really know why but the longer ones ain’t usually as sweet.
You want SHORT petal tips not the longer ones, this usually tells you if it’s pink on the inside or not.
Once you have caught your sessile prey you will WAIT patiently for the petals dry out, until the TIPS of the petals have started to turn BROWN
i have a lot of feelings and thoughts about coelacanths today
like… they’re blue
you have this mysterious fish that no one really cared about, because everyone assumed they’d gone extinct with the dinosaurs. an interesting footnote, but one of many, many fossil species.
and later the coelacanth gets some fame as a so-called “missing link” species, a theory which is now outdated (and not accurate for coelacanths) but was really influential at the time. because they have some weird biological quirks – bones in fins! – people were like “oh, they must be a missing link.” so the coelacanth was launched into some fame with the theory of evolution. it got brought up a lot. drawn in old textbooks as proof.
and then a fisherman finds a weird fish off the coast of south africa and calls a local fish expert who had let it be known she was interested in weird finds, and he brings her the (unfortunately badly rotted) corpse and she’s like “well, this is sure weird,” and sends off the bones to other experts, who start to quietly freak out, and rush to south africa, and rewards are offered for another one, any other one, and a few years later one is caught and frozen before rotting.
and it’s this incredible discovery, this extinct creature come to life (the prehistoric coelacanth lived in swamps and marshes in south america; these now are deep ocean fish in and around the indian ocean, but it’s still recognizably the same species)!
but it’s also blue.
not like, muddy blue, or tumblr-default-background blue.
proper shimmering sapphire blue and white. almost turquoise in some lights. this like… muddy, fossil creature. always drawn in dinosaur browns and grays. and it’s alive and it’s blue. just imagine being the scientist who opened that crate to this creature for the first time. you’re already excited, you’ve known about this fish for decades, you thought it was a story, you know it’s in this box. you expect to see the weird fins and the strange tail. you know it’s large and odd looking. and you open it up and it’s this beautiful, shining blue, you know?
